Does TikTok Notify When You Screenshot DMs?
Short answer: No. We tested this directly — account A screenshot a DM conversation, and account B received no notification of any kind. TikTok has no documented screenshot detection for direct messages.

Screenshot Notifications vs Read Receipts: Don't Confuse Them
The one DM privacy feature TikTok does have is read receipts. If both you and the other person have read receipts enabled, they can see when you have opened their message. This is completely separate from screenshots:
| Action | Visible to the Other Person? |
|---|---|
| Screenshot a DM | NO |
| Screen record a chat | NO |
| Open a message (read receipts on) | YES — shown as "Seen" |
You can toggle read receipts in Settings → Privacy → Direct messages.
Does TikTok Have Disappearing Messages?
No. Unlike Snapchat or Instagram's vanish mode, TikTok DMs have no ephemeral message mode — and therefore no screenshot alerts tied to one. Messages stay in the chat until someone manually deletes them, and capturing them produces no notification. As of August 2026, TikTok has not documented any such feature.
What About Photos and Videos Sent in DMs?
The same applies. In our testing, screenshotting media shared inside a TikTok chat produced no notification on the sender's side. This could change if TikTok introduces a disappearing-media feature in the future — we re-test after major app updates.
